The receiver itself does DTS and DD 5.1 and Prologic I. Don't know if that matters in terms of what I need to get this running. I don't actually have a subwoofer, though I have the receiver set to channel bass to the front speakers. It has front L, front R, surround L, surround R, center, and subwoofer inputs. My motherboard's onboard sound processing is capable of outputting to 7.1, so it should be good for 5.1 My ancient receiver, Pioneer VSX-D08, has one analog input that appears to accommodate 5.1 sound (labeled DVD 5.1 CH input).
Since I want to remove the soundcard to make room for stuff, I want to know how exactly I go about connecting my PC sound to my receiver through analog while still getting 5.1.
Turns out I only need DDL if I'm stuck with optical. Months ago, I was under the mistaken impression that I needed Dolby Digital Live to get 5.1 sound out of PC games when running the PC through a receiver, and that was the sole reason I got a Xonar soundcard.
